Softback Binding

Softback (channel) binding with gold lettering on the spine to submit to the University, costs just £4.50 each for a while you wait service. Rest assured: this binding is fully compliant with the University's regulations for presentation of dissertations and the work is carried out by staff with many years' experience.

We can also print your dissertation; we recommend that you make a PDF for best results.

Muprint offers a range of softback binding options, all available on a while-you-wait basis in a matter of minutes. These include:

• Comb binding holes are punched in the paper and plastic rings hold the sheets together. Can bind up to 430 sheets. Cost: from £1.70 to £2.30 each.
• Wire binding holes are punched in the paper and metal rings hold the sheets together. Can bind up to 340 sheets. Cost: from £2.00 to £2.90 each.
• Metalbind Channel binding (mentioned above) is a flat steel channel which clamps the sheets together to form the spine of the binding which can bind up to 300 sheets. Cost: £3.00. Optional: Lettering on the spine for an extra £1.50.

The number of sheets quoted is approximate and based on standard weight 80gsm paper. We will select the most appropriate size binder for your document.

Hardback Binding

MuPrint are agents for T Walker & Co Bookbinders. They are experts in producing high quality, traditional hardback binding for theses and dissertations. The finished book is covered in (usually) black Buckram, a hard-wearing cloth - not a thin paper-based cover used in some other bindings. Gold lettering is foil blocked onto the cover in 24pt Times. The standard service takes two working days (Monday to Friday only), with an express next-day service available (subject to a surcharge).
 
Prices for the universities of Manchester and Salford are shown below. Hardback binding can also be done to the standard required by other universities. Please bring a copy of your regulations when you place your order.

University of Manchester

Pages are glued only (not hand-sewn). The finished book has a square back (spine). PVA glue is used. Gold lettering is required on the spine only.

• Up to 300 sheets: £25
• 300-500 sheets: £26

For your own personal copy, you may wish to have gold lettering on the front; this costs £2.50 per line.

University of Salford

The hardback binding required at the University of Salford is of a much higher standard than other universities and is produced to British Standard BS4821. Limit of 300 pages per book. Pages are hand-sewn and glued. The finished book has a rounded back (spine). EVA glue is used.

• £38.95 (lettering on spine only)
• Express service surcharge - next working day: £18.95 per copy

The number of sheets of paper quoted is for standard 80gsm weight paper. Heavier papers are thicker and are therefore equivalent to more sheets of 80gsm paper.

The binders visit MuPrint once a day in the afternoon to collect and deliver. The following times are approximate only:

• Bring your printed thesis/dissertation to MuPrint by 2.30pm.
• Ready to collect from MuPrint at 3.30pm on your stated date.

Please do not bring your work for binding too late as you may miss the collection on that day. If you require any printing or copying at MuPrint, you must allow sufficient time for this.

The standard service for Hardback binding is two working days. For example, any work brought in on Monday before 2.30pm would be ready on Wednesday by 3.30pm*. Note that we have just one collection/delivery from the bindery daily, Monday to Friday only. (*Approximate time - may be earlier or later depending on workload, traffic etc.)

Please note there is no need for a reservation on any of our standard services.

The prices quoted are for binding only. Mono (black & white) or colour printing will be charged in addition, but we are happy to bind it if you print it yourself. The normal page size is A4 portrait/vertical. If you require binding of a different page size, e.g. A4 landscape or A3, please ask for a quotation.

The Express service offers delivery on the next working day. This is normally available without need for prior reservation but there may be very busy periods when this service is restricted e.g. the September Masters submission period, so please check.
